Our Visit

This past Mother’s Day, was a day filled with nostalgia, great food, and a touch of adventure. Around 6:15 pm, after a peaceful 30-minute drive through the rolling hills of Chino, we found ourselves eagerly standing in line outside Soup N Fresh. Under the makeshift canopies, the anticipation built as we waited for our turn to step inside this buffet-style gem.

As we shuffled forward, conversations swirled around us—chatter about the Souplantation days, speculations on the origins of Soup N Fresh, and murmurs of excitement from families just like ours, ready to dive into an all-you-can-eat feast. After a 25-30 minute wait, we finally stepped through the doors, greeted by the comforting aroma of fresh soup, warm bread, and crisp salad greens.

This visit wasn’t just about the food—it was about reliving childhood memories, sharing that joy with our kids, and savoring the experience of a simple yet satisfying dining tradition.

Details We Discovered

If you were ever a fan of Souplantation, Soup N Fresh might feel like a parallel universe—so familiar yet with a few exciting twists. Just like Souplantation, it’s a buffet-style eatery with a salad line, soups, pastas, baked goods, fresh fruit, and desserts. But there’s one major difference: at Soup N Fresh, you’re free to go through the salad line as many times as you’d like, unlike Souplantation, where you were only allowed one trip before indulging in the unlimited sides.

As we wandered through the restaurant, we noticed that nearly 95% of the food mirrored the beloved classics from Souplantation. The Chino Hills location, however, was slightly smaller than the Souplantations we had visited in the past. Whether the Rancho Cucamonga location is larger remains a mystery for now—but after speaking with fellow customers, we heard an interesting tidbit: Soup N Fresh was allegedly started by a former Souplantation employee. If true, it certainly explains the striking similarities between the two!

One thing was clear—this place had captured the magic of Souplantation and given it a fresh start.

Additional Thoughts

While the 25-30 minute outdoor wait initially seemed a bit lengthy, once inside, the experience felt smooth and well-paced. Perhaps this strategy helps regulate the flow of diners, ensuring each guest has a more relaxed and enjoyable meal without feeling rushed.

Having a two-hour window to enjoy the buffet was a fantastic setup. It allowed us plenty of time to try multiple rounds of food without feeling pressured to scarf everything down in record time. For Jason and me, the nostalgia was undeniable—it felt like stepping back into our childhood favorites but with our own kids beside us, making new memories.

Speaking of kids, ours (ages 10 and 12) were absolutely thrilled with the experience! They happily sampled everything and quickly declared that they wanted to return. Seeing their excitement only solidified our love for the place.

Final Thoughts

Soup N Fresh might not be a household name just yet, but if our experience is anything to go by, it has all the makings of a beloved staple. The familiar flavors, the relaxed atmosphere, and the buffet-style freedom combine to create a dining experience that feels both new and deeply nostalgic.

Will it eventually grow into a large chain? Time will tell. But for now, we’re happy to embrace it as a local gem—a place where flavors from the past live on, where new memories are made, and where the simplicity of an all-you-can-eat buffet still brings people together.

We’ll definitely be back. Who knows? Maybe next time, we’ll head to the Rancho Cucamonga location and uncover even more delicious details!
